The National Association of Friendship Centres together with the J. W. McConnell Family Foundation and partners, The Circle and Canadians For A New Partnership, are organizing Canada’s first ever Indigenous Innovation Summit to take place November 18-20th, in Winnipeg.

The Summit will empower participants to build new partnerships, helping participants learn more about the current state of social innovation in Canada and unlock new solutions to some common challenges. The Summit brings together Indigenous innovators from across Canada and a variety of sectors. By way of a unique, participatory format, the Summit encourages something referred to as “field building”, creating new connections and partnerships and overcoming old barriers. Some of the confirmed speakers include:

  • The Honourable Justice Murray Sinclair, Truth and Reconciliation Commission
  • Brian Bowman, Mayor of Winnipeg
  • Wab Kinew, CBC Radio/TV Host, CFNP Board member
  • Shelagh Rogers, Host, CBC Radio One The Next Chapter, CFNP Board member
  • Mary Simon, former President, Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK) / Chairperson of the National Committee on Inuit Education, Trudeau Foundation, CFNP Co-chair
The format of the entire event is interactive. The Winnipeg Boldness Project with the MaRs Solutions Lab, a leading social innovation hub, will be running an Innovation lab at the Summit. It will be a space that encourages networking, participation and facilitation amongst delegates of their projects. Also, a special Reconciliation as Innovation event will take place on Thursday, November 19 at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.
